Occupying Labor Day at the Bread and Roses Festival

On Monday Sept 3rd, fifteen members of Occupy Arlington and Occupy Middlesex celebrated labor day at the Bread and Roses festival in Lawrence, MA. Of course, we weren't the only ones; there were plenty of musical performers, booths, food, and lots of working class union folk. This Labor Day celebration was very much a celebration of the US labor movement.

General Assembly Notes 19 August 2012

Approximately 12 people came to the steps of town hall for tonight's GA. As people were arriving, Mike and Steve stood alongside Mass Ave holding signs; "Corporations ≠ People" and "Solidarity for the Occupation". We got a few honks, a few waves, and a lot of turned heads as people drove by.

Most of GA was spent making signs for the Sept 3rd Bread and Roses festival (we plan to re-use some of the signs at Occupy Arlington's town day booth). In a sense, tonight's meeting was part Occupy Arlington, and part Occupy Middlesex.

Towards the end of the evening, we sat down and had a group discussion (detailed later).

During the GA we were visited by two couples who stopped by to ask "what's this?", and we had some really nice conversations about the Occupy movement, and why we became involved in it.

General Assembly Notes 5 August 2012

Eight people attended Occupy Arlington's August 5th General Assembly. We passed two proposals that affect GA scheduling:

  • During September, we'll hold GA on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, rather than the 1st and 3rd Sundays.
  • We'll hold the Aug 19th GA on the steps of Arlington Town Hall. We'll use the evening to plan/prepare for the Bread and Roses festival, which is taking place in Lawrence on Sept 3rd. (Bring sign-making materials).
